Company: Closet Envy Inc.
Designer: Melissa Jane Veinotte
Project Name: R. Cekan | Mudroom

Clients Request
All closets in the home, after seeing the Front Entry closet - I offered an option for their mudroom space that was completely empty of any solution - with no closet for coats other than the Front Entry closet which was located away from this space.  Client requested there be space for short hanging coats, with a section the littles could reach and hang their own coats in the future - and plenty of shoe storage for all family members.  Client's have a small child but are a growing family.  Storage for winter accessories such as hats and mittens and summer items such as sunscreens and bug spray.

Design Narrative
The space was empty when I went for the initial consultation for their closets - after offering a solution for their Front Entry I suggested that they keep this space mainly for guests and adults in the home.  The home was very modern and in need of a space to complement their modern kitchen, as the mudroom was not located very far from this space and the door would most likely be open the majority of the time.  Since the door could be open - I executed a design that would cover most of this space to alleviate any mess being seen from the Kitchen.  The wardrobe on the right includes a lower hang rod for their daughter to be able to reach once she starts school.  The cabinet on the left is full shelving to maximize the storage of shoes and not have them out on display.  The two drawers below were allocated for winter accessories - 1 for the children and another for the adults in the home, until another little comes along!  The top hinge doors above were designed to store extra sunscreen and bug spray for outings and school and to keep them out of reach from children.  I have opted for storage boxes above the hooks as they can easily be stored out of sight when not in use and conceal other overflow small items for this growing family or could be reachable for the adults.  I have limited the number of hooks in this space as I believe that if you have too many hooks they will be used and can end up making the mudroom look very cluttered instead of teaching children where things belong.  The Front Entry has been maximized to store more formal longer coats and additional shoes which may not need to be stored within the casual use mudroom plus give additional hanging and storage for visiting guests.  This also provided a solution for shoes being stored at the Front Entrance.  Not a bad upsell and the family is extremely happy with how they will be organized moving forward!
